An international expression of interest issued by the Maltese government for the design, construction and operation of White Rocks Malta, was collected by 17 investors, the ministry for the economy said.

The document from the Privatisation Unit was collected against a non-refundable collection fee of €10,000.

Since June, a total of 139 requests were submitted to the Privatisation Unit for further information, out of which 17 collected the document by the deadline.

The investors now have until 30 September to request clarifications, which the Privatisation Unit needs to reply by the 15 October so that submissions can be made by the 24 October.

The investors comprise non-EU, EU, and Maltese consortia.

Economy minister Chris Cardona said that great nterest had been shown in yet another international call by the Maltese government.

“Once again, we are experiencing great interest from local, as well as international, investors in a call issued by the government. This is further evidence of the trust in the Maltese Government, in its Economic strategy and, more importantly, in the Maltese and Gozitan people.

“We are looking forward so that with determination and commitment we ensure that this project materialises. This will make certain that justice is made to this area and to the people who, for many years, have had to witness this dilapidation, and mostly, have had to see that a site with great potential in our country is not being used.”
