12 things on which prices have gone up (or down) since Budget 2017

Hair gel, shampoo, toiletries, non-alcoholic beverages, and… steel rods, will have their excise hiked on import

1. Cigarettes 23.4% price increase, not less than €165 on every 1,000 cigarettes, 3.76% increase in excise

2. Cigarillos €25.24/1,000, 3.76% excise increase

3. Hand-rolling tobacco €122/kg, average 5.5% price increase

4. Other smoking tobacco €122/kg, 5.5% average price increase and €36.40/kg of pipe and shisha tobacco

5. Non-alcoholic beverages Increase from €20 to €40 per 1,000 litres, 2c price increase on each litre. Net impact is 1.9% price inrease, including VAT.

6. Plastic bags for organic and domestic waste Increase from €250 to €425 for every 100kg, maximum €305/10,000 bags. Price increases by 0.012c per bag; grey and green bags, and biodegrables not affected. Net price impact is 1.2% increase inclusive of VAT.

7. Perfumes and toiletries €220 excise/100 litres instead of eco-tax. This affects aftershaves, and perfumes. But there will be no excise tax on detergents or domestic cleansing agents, toothpaste, mouthwash, dental hygeine products which now will no longer carry eco-tax on them. Net effect is a 1.3% increase in retail price, including VAT.

8. Make-up and skin products €50 excise/100 litres instead of eco-tax. Net effect is a 1.3% increase in retail price, including VAT.

9. Hair products €50 excise/100 litres on hair products, aftershave and room-deodorisers, and 3c/litre increase on shampoo, personal hygiene products and deodorants, and shower gels. Net effect is a 1.3% increase in retail price, including VAT.

10. Concrete, ceramic, glass €25.60 excise/100kg on prefab concrete structures, €7.50/1,000kg of ceramic tiles, €16/1,000kg on glass sheets. This does not affect locally produced items, which are exempt from excise. Prefab structures that use cement or steel on which excise is already paid, are excluded.
