Man convicted of Alfie Rizzo murder admits to trafficking drugs in prison

Libyan national Aimen Said Giali El Baden, 29 who is serving a 25 year prison term for his complicity in the murder of renowned hair-stylist Alfie Rizzo in 1998, admits to charges of trafficking in heroin inside Corradino prisons.

An all-smiling El Baden appeared before Magistrate Gabriella Vella this afternoon, and entered a guilty plea to the charges brought against him by Inspector Jurgen Vella.

He will be sentenced on Thursday.

El Baden was jailed for 25 years in 2004 after jurors unanimously found him guilty of murdering Alfie Rizzo in his Gzira salon.

He was 17-and-a-half-years old when the murder was committed with his accomplice, Ibrahim Shnishah who had a life term reduced to 30 years imprisonment on appeal.

El-Baden is also serving a seven year jail term imposed by the Magistrates Court in December 2000 for escaping from prison, threatening and assaulting two prison wardens, holding them against their will and possessing a knife without a licence.

He had escaped with another three inmates on March 29, 2000 and all four men were recaptured in Ghajn Tuffieha 36 hours later.
