Relapsing thief warned, given suspended sentence

Court warns thief that jail time will be handed down if she is brought to court again.

Mary Anne Borg, 29 of Mtahleb, received a stern warning that unless she changes her ways, she will face a long prison term after being handed another suspended sentence for stealing €240 from two apartments.

Magistrate Doreen Clarke had strong words for the woman, warning her that this is the final straw and that next time she would face jail time. Borg has in the past already been convicted of similar thefts. She pleaded guilty.

Noting the accused's guilty plea, the court handed Borg a year's jail time suspended for two years. The woman was given two months to pay back the stolen money.

Inspector Joseph Mercieca prosecuted while lawyer Christopher Chircop represented the accused.
