Swede jailed for eight months, fined for drug trafficking

24-year-old Swede jailed after pleading guilty to trafficking cannabis and cocaine.
 

Per Oscar Johansson, a 24-year-old Swede living in Malta has been jailed for eight months and fined after admitting to trafficking cannabis and cocaine.

Johansson also pleaded guilty to being in possession of the drugs in circumstances that denoted that it was not for his personal use.

The incident occurred on Tuesday when, after weeks of suspicion, police arrested the man in Pembroke. Informed sources said that after being apprehended near the Institute of Tourism Studies, the Swede was found in possession of around 20 grams of cocaine and cannabis.

Sources close to the investigation also stated that a search at the accused's apartment in Swieqi yielded several drug paraphernalia, including a weighing scale, and empty sachets.

In its decree, the court noted that the accused admitted at an early stage of proceedings, and that he cooperated. Nevertheless, presiding Magistrate Doreen Clarke jailed him for eight months and fined him €500.
