Sergeant Major sustains injuries to his face in attack

A 33-year-old Nigerian man injured a sergeant major in a struggle at the police headquarters on Thursday

A sergeant major stationed at the Police headquarters lock up was injured when he was attacked by an “aggressive irregular migrant” yesterday afternoon.

The man was being escorted to a detention services van, that would take him to the Safi detention centre.

The incident occurred on Thursday at around 12.30 and three police officers had to help the two officers struggling to escort the 33-year-old Nigerian migrant.

The man then head butted the Sergeant major. Injuring him underneath his right eye.

The sergeant major was taken to Floriana Health centre were he received medical attention, while the man was taken to the detention centre.

The aggressor will be taken to court this morning.
