Couple seek compensation from hotel after plummeting planter damages car

In March, the couple went to their car only to discover significant damage had been done to the vehicle after a plant pot belonging to the St George's Park hotel had fallen on it

A couple opened a court case against Blue Sea Limited, which owns St George's Park Hotel in St Julians, asking for a €12,000 in compensation after their car was damaged by a planter.

The court heard how on 12 March of this year, James Zammit went to his car, which was parked right next to the hotel, to take his wife to the airport. The couple live close by and parked in the area frequently.

Zammit discovered that the BMW was seriously damaged, with a large dent on its roof, and noted the planter nearby.

In her testimony, the wife, Marcel Zammit said that when they saw the pot, the couple spoke to one of the security officials, who confirmed that the pot belonged to the hotel.

The official told the couple that the pot had falled from the sixth floor.

According to James Zammit's testimony, his insurer had valued the car at €12,000 euros. He added that this same hotel has a history of similar incidents, recalling that he himself had once witnessed guests throwing television sets out of the building.

Lawyer Roberto Montalto appeared for the couple.
