Drug addict who robbed pensioner of €20, ordered to undergo rehab

Clinton Bugeja pleaded guilty to stealing a purse containing €20 from a 73-year old woman who had been walking in Mosta.

A court has heard a 29 year-old drug addict from Rabat admit to having stolen an elderly woman's purse last Monday.

Magistrate Monica Vella heard Inspector Mark Mercieca accuse Clinton Bugeja of committing the theft as his 73-year old victim had been walking in Mosta. The woman subsequently required treatment for shock, the court was told.

The purse contained just €20, the court was told.

Bugeja, who has drug addiction problems, pleaded guilty and was handed a 13 month prison sentence, suspended for three years and placed under a supervision order for three years. He was also ordered to undergo a drug rehabilitation program.
