Kappara traffic chaos unacceptable, says Labour

Unacceptable situation as roadworks generate traffic chaos at junction.

The Labour party said in a statement that ongoing roadworks on Guze Ellul Mercer bridge and Kappara creating congestion and traffic chaos were unacceptable and the result of a lack of planning in the implementation of works.

Labour said that works should have never been carried out simultaneously on two arterial roads that led to the same junctions, and instead they should have been used as diversion routes when works are carried out on each road.

The party said that the diversion routes provided were also not adequate due to the amount of traffic passing through them.

The PL said approving such traffic management plans was transport minister Austin Gatt’s responsibility, and that the chaos from roadworks were his responsibility as well. “There is an urgent need to address these problems… it is Gatt’s and Transport Malta’s responsibility to choose a design for this junction that can have the least impact on traffic circulation.”
