Joseph Muscat 'thirsts for power' – PN

Nationalist Party accuses Opposition leader of wanting instability and putting his ambition to become prime minister before national interest.

Referring to the declaration made by Opposition leader Joseph Muscat this evening in Parliament, the Nationalist Party said that wanting an election at all costs shows his “thirst for power”.

“Joseph Muscat wants instability to satisfy his dreams of becoming prime minister,” the PN said in a statement this evening.

The PN quoted Muscat as saying that “even if the motion does not pass, the government still would not be in a position to lead the country.”

“This is another confirmation that Muscat has a thirst for power. He is placing his ambition, to become Prime Minister, over and above national interest and quality of life of Maltese and Gozitan families,” the PN said.

The PN also said that 2012 is proving to be a year filled with difficult decisions to be made because of the international economic crisis, and one mistake  could be greatly damaging to the country’s economy and result in a loss of employment.

“Despite this, Muscat is only thinking about playing partisan political games. He is only thinking about himself and becoming prime minister as soon as possible.

“Muscat’s declaration, along with that by Labour MP George Vella who said that Muscat is ‘already practically Prime Minister’, continues to expose Muscat’s Labour Party as a party thirsting for power at the cost of national interest and quality of life of Maltese and Gozitan families,” the PN said.
