The general condition of former Labour Prime Minister Dom Mintoff has improved remarkably, Mater Dei Hospital said in a statement.

The hospital added that Mintoff doesn't require further care in the Intensive Therapy Unit and has been transferred to the Critical Coronary Care Unit.

Mintoff, who next month turns 96, was treated urgently at the Resuscitation Area of the Accident and Emergency Department last week.

His condition had been described by the Cardiology Team responsible for his care as critical.
