Joseph Muscat holding talks in Libya

PL leader Joseph Muscat is in Libya.   Former foreign ministers George Vella and Alex Sceberras Trigona will be accompanying Muscat together with veteran MP Karmenu Vella and Michael Farrugia.

All those accompanying Muscat have long experience with the Libyan government.  It is not known if there is any particular reason for the meeting.  However the Labour party has a long tradition of friendship with the Libyan government.  Neither is it known if Muscat will be meeting the Libyan dictator Muammar Gaddafi.

In recent weeks, Muscat has been silent on the agreement between the Maltese and Italian government on the repatriation of migrants.  The Labour party has been very sensitive to its electorate who are by far and large in favour of a tough policy tiwards migrants leaving Libyan shores.

Consistent polls have shown that the Maltese public supports strong action against migrants.

Only two weeks ago, the Maltese Armed forces were accused by the UNHCR of using ‘unacceptable’ means to force repatriate migrants back to Libya.

And what did we ever get from the thousand and one official delegations by various PN Prime Ministers and Ministers to Libya or elsewhere? Nothing, Zero! Indeed, no PN Prime Minister ever negotiated anything in favour of Malta, except ( that is ) the famous Frontex Agreement with the famous catch 22-BURDEN SHARING-which could still ruin us in the near future. Blowing bubbles in the air,and pomposity is what PN's foreign negotiations is all about, unlike the Italo-Maltese-15 year financial protocol agreementat ( negotiated by the Labour Party) that poured millions of Euros into Maltese coffers and quickly vapourised by the spendrift PN led Government!

@ Eric Saliba: worried about what?? a leader of a Party in Malta will go and meet Ghaddafi.........so what?? whatever they will talk about it will just be bar talk.........nothing will be binding for Malta since he is nothing but a Party Leader just like Michael Briguglio and Norman Lowell for that sake!! Only the PRIME MINISTER has significant talks that are legally binding for the Maltese State.......therefore Muscat could sleep in Ghaddafi's bed for all I care!!

i hope joseph will go to see the conditions of the migrants before he comes here again talking bull**** about the migrants to get some votes!!

Patrick Once you know who you are reading ,such observations come easy.Remember there are no such things as independent newspapers or journalists no matter what anyone may say.

@milanist Time teaches all.

Joe You would have made the man proud with such acute sense of observation!

@ milanist. if you don't care who Joseph Muscat meets with why do you bother to comment? or maybe you do care and it is worrying you and your gonzipn mates?

Who cares who Joseph Muscat meets anyway? He's not the Prime Minister thankfully!!

@Joe Borg Exactly my thoughts, depends who writes the article I guess. Maltatoday boast of being the only independent newspaper on the island, but then it is hard to keep one's employees from dropping those small hints of their bias.
