New reductions in medicines, up to 27% for cancer prevention injection

The Office of the Prime Minister has announced new reductions in prices of 17 medicines, including inhalers, as of immediate effect.

Injections to prevent cervical cancer and inhalers for asthmatic persons are amongst the 17 medicines whose cost in price has decreased by immediate effect.

OPM said since July 2010, 146 medicine prices have been revised.

The decreases range from 2% and 27% of the original prices, including the €40.61 price cut in Cervarix (0.5 ml suspension for injection in a prefilled syringe). The price of the Seredite Diskus inhaler (500µg/m.d. x 60 m.d) has decreased by €11.03 (15%).

Tamiflu prices have decreased between 12% and 16%, according to the packet and dose.

The new prices reflect the average medicine prices in European countries, OPM said.
