Maltese in Tunisia should ‘exercise caution’ – Foreign Ministry
In the light of wide-spread riots that have reportedly claimed at least 50 lives, the Forign Affairs Ministry issued warnings to Maltese nationals in Tunisia.
In a statement, Maltese travellers are warned stay away from large gatherings and demonstrations, exercise caution, respect the curfew even in areas under curfew. “They are also advised to observe all instructions given by local security authorities.”
“All persons travelling to Tunisia should note that there have been demonstrations in different locations across Tunisia and that some have resulted in violence. Wednesday 12th January a general state of emergency was declared and a curfew was announced in greater Tunis (Tunis, Ben Arous, Ariana and La Manouba) forbidding people to go out between 20h00 to 05h30.”
In case of emergency, the ministry said that travellers and Maltese nationals living in Tunisia are advised to contact the Maltese Embassy emergency numbers listed on this website www.foreign.gov.mt/tunisia
