Arriving in Tehran on Thursday, Egyptian President Mohammad Morsi’s trip marks the first visit to Iran by an Egyptian leader since the Islamic revolution in 1979.

Morsi received a red-carpet welcome at Mehrabad airport in Tehran as he was there to attend a summit of the Non-Aligned Movement which is to come to an end on Friday.

The failure of the United States according to Iran was reason for its presentation of the movement to isolate the US from the rest of the world.

Ayatollah Ali Khamenei will address around 35 visiting heads of state this morning in an attempt to emphasise this failure.

Following Iran’s revolution over Egypt’s support for the overthrown Shah and peace agreement with Israel, there was a breakdown in diplomatic relations between Cairo and Tehran.

Vowing to take a more balanced foreign policy as president, Morsi has to date refused to address whether ties would be resumed with Iran.
