Libya denies attacks on Benghazi
The Libyan government has said its forces are “not involved” in military action in or around the rebel-held city of Benghazi.
"There are no attacks whatesover on Benghazi. As we said, we are observing the ceasefire and we want international observers to come," government spokesman Mussa Ibrahim said.
He added: "There are rebels attacking villages and towns trying to instigate outside military interverntion."
The claim comes after an artillery bombardment hit the centre of the eastern Libyan city.
A fighter jet has also been shot down and forces loyal to Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi have reportedly been seen entering the city's suburbs.
