Turkish cargo ship bombed near Tobruk port

A Turkish dry cargo ship was shelled from the Libyan coast as it approached Tobruk port and then attacked from the air as it tried to leave the area on Sunday, the Turkish Foreign Ministry said on Monday.

Libyan military spokesman says the Turkish vessel was bombed after it was warned not to approach libyan city of Derna.

"A ship was shelled about 10 miles from Derna coast. We have warned before about approaching Derna port," Mohamed Hejazi, a spokesman for forces with Libya's internationally recognised government told Reuters.

"A member of the crew was killed, and there is one wounded," he said. A military source said the vessel was on fire and now being towed in Tobruk terminal.

The ship's third officer died and other crew members were wounded in the attacks, which the ministry condemned in a statement, saying the ship was in international waters at the time. The statement did not specify who launched the attacks.
