Two separate attacks were carried out by Daesh (ISIL) in Tripoli on Friday morning, targeting the Mitiga airport and prison.

Informed sources said no one was injured when a car bomb exploded at the Libyan airport, however three guards were killed in the prison attack. The two attacks may have been coordinated.

The three guards were killed when Daesh targeted the Mitiga prison at around 7am, in an attempt to free a number of its militants.

The attackers made their way into the prison after bombing the prison walls and killing three guards. However, they failed to free any Daesh prisoners.
