Qantas find oil leaks in three Airbus engines

Qantas Airlines, Australia’s national airline, has found oil leaks in three Rolls-Royce engines on its grounded fleet of Airbus A380s.

The investigation follows the unexplained blast which sent parts of an engine raining down on an Indonesian island soon after flight QF32 took off from Singapore last week.

The double-decker jet, which was on its way to Sydney with 466 people on board, had to turn round and make an emergency landing.

“The oil leaks were beyond normal tolerances,” Qantas CEO said. “All of these engines are new engines on a new aircraft type. The engines are not performing to the parameters that you would expect with this.”

The fleet of six planes will be grounded for at least another 72 hours.
