Mexican drug lord 'El Chapo' found guilty by New York jury

'El Chapo' was found guilty by jury on Tuesday and can now face life imprisonment

After a three-month long trial, it's finally been decided: Joaquin Guzman, better known as 'El Chapo', has been found guilty by a New York jury. It took the jury six days of deliberation to reach this verdict.

This could result in El Chapo facing a life behind bars as the 61-year old former kingpin was accused of smuggling 155 tons of cocaine and other narcotics into the United States for a period of over 25 years.

El Chapo (meaning short for his 5 ft 6 in height) had become Mexico's top drug baron in 2003, head of the Sinaloa drug cartel, after his rival Osiel Cárdenas Gullén of the Gulf Cartel was was arrested.
