Local swimmer Mark Sammut breaks two national age group records in Glasgow
National swimmer Mark Sammut broke two age group ‘D’ records in the 50m backstroke and the 100m backstroke while he was competing in Glasgow during the Scottish National Championship between the 22nd and 27th June.
Sammut swam the 50m backstroke in time of 29.08 to better his own record of 29.19 which he had done in Lyon, France in March. In the 100m backstroke he clocked 1.02,65 also bettering his own record of 1.02,88 which he had done in Millfield, UK during the UK South West region championship in May.
Sammut placed 5th out of 102 swimmers in the 100m backstroke in the U-16 category and also came 23rd in the Open 50m backstroke out of 55 swimmers. He also registered a personal best time in the 100m butterfly when he clocked 1.00,12 in the Under 16 category placing sixth from 88 swimmers.
Mark Sammut's next commitment is joining the Maltese swimmers who will now be competing in the FISEC Games being held in Tours, France between the 5th and 11 July 1, 2010 and they will be accompanied by coach Gail Rizzo.
