Novak calls Robredo to play in Belgrade

Novak Djokovic will have a formidable task of defending the maiden Serbia Open which took place last year in Belgrade now that Tommy Robredo, a Spanish clay-court specialist, has been handed a wildcard to appear at the second edition of an ATP tournament based in Belgrade. Tournament director, Goran Djokovic, has decided to make Robredo one of the players to be specially added to the roster of players to appear in the main draw. Other tennis players to fight for the €373,000 worth of prize money at the Serbia Open will be John Isner, Richard Gasquet, Stanislas Wawrinka, Sam Querrey, Ivo Karlovic, Andreas Seppi, Viktor Troicki and Janko Tipsarevic. There is one more wildcard to be handed out for this year’s edition of the ATP tennis event. Tommy Robredo is a specialist for the clay surface and his forehand is his biggest asset. The Spanish is currently ranked 21st in the ATP rankings. Robredo entered the world of pro tennis in 1998, but it took him eight years before he broke into the world’s top ten. It happened in May 2006, after which he ascended to the ATP rankings position number five, his career high so far, in August that year, after winning the Hamburg Open.
