Referees announced for semi-finals

FIFA Referees Committee has announced that the Uruguay-Netherlands and Germany-Spain semi-finals will be refereed by Ravshan Irmatov and Viktor Kassai respectively.

The former, a 32-year-old from Uzbekistan, took charge of the FIFA Club World Cup final in 2008, and became the youngest man since 1934 to referee the Opening Match of a FIFA World Cup earlier this tournament. His assistants for tomorrow’s first last-four game in Cape Town will be compatriot Rafael Ilyasov and Kazakhstan’s Bakhadyr Kochkarov, while Yuichi Nishimura will be the fourth official and Toru Sagara the reserve assistant referee.

Kassai was at the whistle for the first leg of the South Africa 2010 play-off between Bahrain and New Zealand, and has already refereed three matches in this FIFA World Cup. Fellow Hungarian Gabor Eros and Tibor Vamos will run the lines in Durban, with Belgians Frank de Bleeckere acting as the fourth official and his countryman Peter Hermans the reserve assistant referee.
