The Planning Board has approved planning permission for the construction of a new facility for the care of the elderly in the limits of Naxxar.

The project will include the demolition of a one-storey building on site which is disturbed land. The approved nursing home will have 117 rooms, a dining area, a chapel, a gymnasium and a morgue amongst other facilities.

The site is at the end of the urban area of Naxxar, outside the development boundaries with a frontage on Triq Għargħur.

The applicant, GAP Holdings, had justified the location due to its proximity to existing medical facilities and good road links.

Prior to this site being chosen as part of this planning application, the applicant was requested to carry out a site selection exercise which included a feasibility study.

The Planning Board imposed a planning gain of €28,000.
