37 year-old Romanian national Ciuraru Paraschiva,  was this afternoon handed a nine-month jail term suspended for two years, after she pleaded guilty to charges related to theft from number of shops.

Paraschiva was arrested last Friday from a restaurant in Gzira, when the owner called in the Police after recognising the woman from a CCTV camera still posted on Facebook by another business owner.

In almost all the instances, Paraschiva entered the shop with a baby, bought small items and paid with a €200 note, but distracted the owners while giving change, pocketing some of it, and contesting them for claiming to be short changed.

Inspectors Jason Francis Sultana and Rosanne Debattista prosecuted.
