The man targeted in a car bomb on Sunday 1 June, Darren Degabriele, has succumbed to his injuries.

Degabriele, 35, from Ghaxaq died at 4:20pm after suffering first-degree burns to 60% of his body when a car bomb was detonated while he was driving.

His partner, Stephanie Tonna, was in the car when the bomb exploded, but managed to get out of the vehicle as the flames from beneath the chassis engulfed the driver's seat.

Degabriele, a restaurateur, is the owner of Degabriele Fuels. Degabriele also operated the boat San Niklaw, which made frequent trips to Misurata, Libya.
