Motorcycle accident leaves tourist in critical condition

In the early hours of this morning a Dutch tourist was taken to Mater Dei Hospital suffering from grievous injuries after he crashed a motorcycle he was driving. He was later certified to be in danger of loss of life.

The accident happened in Testeferrata Street in Gżira just before 3.30am. The man was riding a motorcycle, lent to him by a Maltese friend, in Triq l-Imsida when he came to the junction with Triq Testaferrata, hit the traffic island and kept on sliding until he hit the pavement.

An ambulance with medical team arrived on the spot within minutes and rushed the Dutch to Mater Dei Hospital where he was certified to be in danger of loss of life. He is now under medical observation at the ITU.

Magistrate Aaron Bugeja was duly informed and appointed several court experts.

Police collected footage from CCTV cameras situated near the scene of the accident. District Police led by Inspector Jason F. Sultana together with PS Ian Vella and PC David Xerri are investigating the incident.
