Shop owner has lucky escape as the roof of her shop collapses in Fgura

The roof of a shop in Fgura collapsed, leaving owner visibly in-shock but luckily unharmed

Shop owner, Jade Zammit, 30, had a close call earlier today, when the roof of her shop, ‘For Her’, collapsed.  The shop that specializes in women’s shoes and accessories is found in Triq Hompesch in Fgura.

The incident occurred at around 12.10 p.m. when workers carrying out construction works on a site above Mizzi’s shop and the adjacent butcher, placed concrete beams on Mizzi’s roof to make it stronger. It would appear that the roof consequently collapsed, but luckily, Mizzi was at the back of the shop when she heard the startling noise.

Mizzi somehow managed to make her way out of the rubble and although she didn’t suffer any injuries, she was visibly very shocked. At the time of the incident, there were no customers in the shop. People who were in the vicinity, including workers who were at the construction site immediately went to help Mizzi.

District Police, under the direction of Sergeant Ian Grima, arrived at the site to investigate. Inspector Spiridione Zammit was informed about the case. An architect was also called to the scene to assess the structural damage in Mizzi’s shop and the shop next door. Mizzi’s shop suffered extensive damage and much of its stock has ended up buried under the rubble.
