Second traffic accident on Coast Road in as many days • Speed limit set at 40km/h

Civil Protection Department's assistance required to get woman out of car • Transport Malta appeals drivers to observe traffic signs

The Coast Road was once again the scene of a head-on traffic accident, after two cars crashed earlier this morning. A similar accident took place yesterday.

Members of the Civil Protection Department were called on site to help a 29-year-old woman who was trapped in her car. Firefighters were forced to saw off the door behind the driver’s seat to be able to get the driver of a Toyota Vitz out of the vehicle.

The woman was driving towards Bugibba when she collided with a rental car, a Peugeot 308, heading towards St Julian’s.

A Canadian couple were in the Peugeot.

Although their condition is not yet known, it is understood that all three were suffering from shock.

Meanwhile, Transport Malta urged drivers to observe traffic signs.  "Once again, we remind drivers that the speed limit on this road is 40 Km/h, that the road is two-way in various sections and no overtaking is allowed in any section of the road," the transport authority said.

"Transport Malta is increasing the road’s safety with signs and other measures; it is important that they are observed."
