Somali youth jailed for stealing car in Munxar

21-year old sentenced to two years in jail, fined €2,300 and had his driving license suspended for a year after pleading guilty to robbing a car in Munxar on Wednesday

A 21-year-old Somali man was imprisoned for two years, fined €2,300 and had his driving license suspended for a year after pleasing guilty to stealing a car in Munxar on Wednesday and driving without an insurance policy.

The court heard on Friday how he had crashed the car, damaging a further three vehicles, and subsequently refused to take a breathalyser test.

He pleaded guilty on all charges.

In a separate sentence on Friday, a 26-year old Maltese man from Floriana was fined €500 and had his probation order extended by a year after pleading guilty to attacking another man in Xaghra on 31 January.

The man also pleaded guilty to breaching other conditions of a previous court sentence and of relapsing.

Police inspector Bernard Charles Spiteri acted as prosecutor in both cases, that were heard by Magistrate Paul Coppini.
