Police have confirmed that it was a wooden plank that landed a man unconscious in a hospital bed after striking him in the head

A 52-year-old worker was knocked unconscious late this morning when he was struck in the head by a wooden plank that had been dislodged by a strong gust of wind, police sources have told MaltaToday.

When contacted by this newspaper, the police confirmed that the man, a Zurrieq resident, was hit in the head at about 11:30am when the piece of wood flew at him while he was working in Hal Safi, close to Malta International Airport.

Later on, the man was declared to be suffering from grievous injuries.
