Hit-and-run leaves man injured, dog dead • Driver arrested

The driver has been identified and is being held in police custody

The police have arrested a man who is believed to have been the driver behind the wheel of a car involved in a hit-and-run incident.

Earlier today, a 41-year man was injured in a hit-and-run incident, that also left the man’s dog dead. The man was taken to Mater Dei hospital where he was certified as having sustained grievous injuries.

Police said that the man was run over in Villabate Road, Zabbar (the bypass road leading to Marsascala) and that Duty Magistrate Dr G Vella has been informed of the case and has engaged a number of experts to assist in the inquiry.

The police also confirmed that a dog, which the man had on a leash, died due to injuries sustained in the same incident.

Police investigations are still ongoing.
