A man found in possession of counterfeit documents upon his arrival to Malta from Turin has been handed an eight-month prison sentence, suspended for two years, after pleading guilty to the charges brought against him.

Patrick Ankomah was charged with making a false declaration after customs discovered he was carrying documents which were false.

The court took the fact that the man had no prior criminal record into consideration when handing down its sentence.

Inspector Victor Aquilina prosecuted while legal aid Christopher Chircop appeared for the accused.

Magistrate Neville Camilleri presided over the case.
