Malta exported 853 tons of flyash in two years

Over the past two years, the island exported some 853 tons of flyash which were generated from Malta’s power stations.

Sister newspaper Illum reveals that since 2009, Malta exported 673 tons of flyash generated from the Marsa power station, whilst another 180 tons of flyash were exported from the Delimara power station.

The tender for the exportation of the flyash was won by PT Matic Environmental Services Ltd, a subsidiary of Alberta.

Illum also reports that Enemalta has refused to reveal how much it has cost government to export the flyash, claiming it would be “unethical” to reveal the amount. But calculations made by the paper show that the exportations could have cost government at least half a million euro.

@Julia Farrugia Could one investigate if the fly ash could actually be sold to interested recycling concerns abroad rather then having Enemalta to pay for its export from Malta?

half a million that could have been used to operate the plants on diesel instead of HFO, less pollution and less bad effects on peoples health and the environment. ** As we say in Maltese Dr Gonzi doesn't have any oil in his face disregarding peoples health and then squanders all that money to dispose of fly ash when it could not have been generated in the first place.
