Nurse uniforms should not leave the hospital

No disciplinary action taken against nurses who wear their uniforms outside of the hospital as specified in the Mater Dei Dress Code Policy.

Since the opening of Mater Dei Hospital in 2008, no warnings were given to employees when they failed to comply with rules stating that nurses should not travel to and from work in their uniforms.

Warnings have not been issued even though there is a specific Dress Code Policy which says that uniforms should not be worn outside of the hospital.

The main issue is related to hygiene and transfer of germs from the uniforms to patients or other persons outside the hospital.

However, the government appears to be unable to do anything about the situation because uniforms have been out-of-stock for three years.

The Health Ministry said the code which prohibiting employees from wearing their uniforms outside of the hospital was to uphold the image of the hospital and not to stop germs from spreading since there is not scientific evidence proving this risk.

What concerns me is that the nurses and paramedics leave hospital also in the same footwear they wear in the wards. Are these not also carriers?
