Elderly couple rescued from fire in St Paul’s Bay

A 64-year-old woman and a 66-year-old man, residents in St Paul’s Bay, were taken to hospital after being trapped in their home on Triq ir-Rebbiegha early this morning by fire.

The police arrived on scene at around 3:45am and were the first to provide assistance to the elderly couple.

The man was later certified as having suffered from serious but non-fatal injuries while the woman and two police constables suffered from minor smoke inhalation injuries.

The fire was then controlled l by the civil protect department.

Police investigations into the cause of the fire are ongoing.
