Alternattiva Demokratika has condemned the proposed scheme to introduce a priority boarding for the Gozo Channel service, according to the party’s spokesman on energy, industry and transport, Ralph Cassar.

Describing the service as ‘essential’, Cassar said that it was ‘inconceivable’ that preference is given to those who were financially better off.

“Basic services should never discriminate on the basis of money,” he said.

“Persons who are less financially capable such as students also need to arrive at their destination on time."

“Those persons who make an effort to be punctual are now going to start being penalized.”

Meanwhile, AD chairperson Arnold Cassola urged the Gozo minister Anton Refalo to reconsider the scheme. He said that this was not the manner by which a self-proclaimed social democratic government should act.

“What should we expect next?” Cassola said. “Should we expect discrimination in favour of those that have money in the health sector?”
