The majority of applications for IVF treatment are turned down, according to a report on The Times' front page. Out of 225 applications submitted, only 53 have been approved. The rest were denied on the grounds that certain criteria were not met, criteria that were only defined this week.

PN leader Simon Busuttil, speaking yesterday at a political event in St Paul's Bay, said that the Opposition would request a ruling from the Speaker of the House in favour of transparency on the issue of the Henley and Partners contract as well as the Electrogas contract. The Opposition will call for the contracts to be made public immediately.

Passengers aboard a Lufthansa Airbus were evacuated off the aircraft after a smoke detector in the hold went off. Passengers were taken to the terminal while fire teams assessed the situation - there appeared to be no blaze. The aircraft was taken to Lufthansa Tecknik for an inspection, causing the cancellation of the Malta-Frankfurt return journey.

New initiatives in Mater Dei hospital have seen the waiting times for an MRI scan reduced significantly. Through the 'Twilight' initiative, patients are having scans done in the early morning and late evening, meaning that more scans are being carried out and the use of the hospital's own equipment means that the cost of each scan is half what it would be if private sector facilities were used.
