The MEP election results are still being tallied, with the 6th and final seat being contested by five candidates. The result will depend on votes inherited from other candidates. So far, PN candidates Roberta Metsola and David Casa, and PL candidates Alfred Sant, Marlene Mizzi and Miriam Dalli have been elected.

A charter of rights for the elderly in care homes was launched yesterday at St Vincent de Paul Residence. The charter aims to set out the rights of patients in care homes and the responsibilities of those charged with their care, in an effort to help the former retain their dignity and freedoms.

With a majority within the European Parliament for the People's Party after the EP elections this week, Jean-Claude Junker is the favourite to take over from Jose Manuel Barroso as President of the Commission. The final say, however, will come from the heads of the EU in a vote that will take place in July.

Minister of Finance Edward Scicluna yesterday said that approximate statistics on Maltese online spending would start being collected. So far, this data does not exist and Scicluna said that having this information on hand could help to get a better picture of the economy.

Malta has made great improvements in its ranking on LGBTI rights. Making a 22% leap over last year's score, Malta's recent political activity in the realm of civil rights has made it the fastest climber in the rankings - landing at 57% - and it has become one of the best countries for LGBTI rights in Europe.
