The wait is finally over as the last counts revealed the cohort of 6 elected MEPs. Alfred Sant, the first elected, will be joined by fellow PL candidates Marlene Mizzi and Miriam Dalli. Incumbents Roberta Metsola and David Casa will be joined by Therese Comodini Cachia in representing Malta in the EP.

PN party faithful cannot fathom a viable replacement for leader Simon Busuttil, despite the crushing defeat in last year's general election and the results of the MEP elections, which took all 28 counts to arrive at the final result of three Labour and three PN candidates.
Sources say that although they feel somewhat helpless, the natural replacement - Beppe Fenech Adami - would not entertain such a possibility, leaving the party with a leader who has not done much to inspire optimism since last year's defeat.

The success of Malta Design Week was marred somewhat by the theft of equipment and parts of installations. An Italian artists's electronic equipment went missing and a local designer's piece disappeared altogether. The deputy director of the exhibition said he was disappointed by the incidents, saying that students and creatives were already hesitant to exhibit their work and that a better security system was needed.

More workers who used to work with Arriva have joined the UHM. Sources said that these workers, which include bus drivers and other personnel who worked with the company, were not satisfied with the work their union was doing on their behalf.

Minister for Sustainable Development Leo Brincat has called for a reduction in the use of black garbage bags, referring to the household waste being thrown away instead of recycled. By 2020, Malta is obliged to recycle at least 50% of its waste but until 2011, this figure stood at just 23%.

President Emeritus George Abela has refused the offer to serve as a consultant to the OPM, according to this newspaper. His presidential term ended on 4 April, before which he refused to sign the government's civil unions bill, delaying the process by several weeks and causing some strain in his relationship with PM Joseph Muscat. Abela himself refused to comment on the offer.
