Government is refusing to honour a controversial €35 million photovoltaic project awarded to Alberta Photovoltaic Consortium before March 2013 after claiming the contract will oblige taxpayer to fork out €11 million to the private firm on feed-in tariffs for energy sold to Enemalta from solar panels.

In an interview carried by MaltaToday, PN leader Simon Busuttil says that following last week’s electoral debacle he considered quitting. However he decided to soldier on as the opposition continues its rebuilding process. The PN has also decided against sponsoring the hunting federation’s petition calling for a change in the Referendum Act.

Newly elected PN MEP Therese Commodini Cachia has joined a legal firm promoting the sale of citizenship despite also representing a company, Arton Capital, which rivalled Henley & Partners in the bid to administer the scheme.

The Sunday newspaper also reports that while speaking on his personal life, PN leader Simon Busuttil admitted that “elections are nothing compared to the pains I faced in life.”
