The compilation of evidence in the case of Erin Tanti, the drama teacher accused of aiding a student in her suicide, continued yesterday. The victim's father took the witness stand and the hearing was briefly suspended as he lashed out at Tanti, demanding to know why he has killed his 15-year old daughter. The case will continue in July.

The Ornis Committee yesterday recommended the application of a derogation of the Birds Directive. to allow a trapping season in the coming autumn. Trapping of seven finch species will be allowed in what the Committee called strictly supervised conditions.

Darren Degabriele's sister said that her brother yesterday received surgical intervention to repair his shattered knee after a car bomb threw him out of his vehicle on Sunday. She said her brother was conscious throughout the ordeal and his girlfriend, the passenger in the same car, was traumatised by the incident.

Malta has slipped down the rankings of countries with the least unemployment. Moving from 4th place to 7th, the continuing rise in uneployment adds to the 19 million of unemployed in the 18 coutries of the Eurozone.

The case against a mother who orchestrated her daughter's perjury, accusing the girl's father of sexually abusing her and condemning him to a prison sentence, will begin next Tuesday. She was brought to the court to face charges of perjury herself last Wednesday.

A strictly controlled drug used to treat anxiety attacks is out of stock, causing anxiety sufferers concern over when it will be made available at Mater Dei again. On calling the pharmacy at Mater Dei, this newspaper reports that the medication was neither in stock nor did staff know when the next batch would be delivered.
