Pasqualino Cefai, 38 of Zebbug, Gozo, got a seven-year jail term yesterday for a courtroom stabbing that occured two years ago. The presiding judge suggested that jurors ought to know of any preceding criminal record before deliberating on the case. Cefai's entanglements with the law began when he was just 16.

A young student yesterday received the Pope John XXIII medal yesterday. President Coleiro Preca praised the 10-year old for his big heart and compassionate nature in befriending and helping his school mate, who has a disability.

Restoration works in Cittadella in Gozo have uncovered historical remains beneath the fortified city. Buried about a storey underground, walls and an arched doorway, which leads into the city, were excavated.

Minister Evarist Bartolo and former MP Jeffrey Pullicino Orlando said that they were not satisfied with the 2011 investigation into the possible tapping of their phones. Bartolo said he continued to have suspicions and Pullicino Orlando said he felt the investigation was handled superficially by Malta Security Services.
