The body of former Education Ministry permanent secretary Paul Attard was discovered yesterday morning, several hours after Attard went missing at a party at St John's Cavalier. Attard was active in both the education sector and the Nationalist Party. His son Colonel David Attard was the former deputy commander of the Armed Forces.

Speaker for health, MP Claudio Grech called on the government to remedy what the PN called a severe injustice - the removal of Charmaine Attard, in May of last year, from her position as Director of Nursing and Midwifery. Attard was appointed after two separate selection processes following a public call but was replaced in 2013 by someone selected without a public call for applications.

Minister for the Economy Chris Cardona yesterday announced plans to rejuvenate the White Rocks complex in Bahar ic-Caghaq into a luxury resort, with expressions of interest from local and foreign developers now being accepted. Cardona said the site would be turned into Malta's most exclusive project, including 5-star hotels and upmarket residences.

The Security Services Committee is due to meet, according to a spokesperson from the Ministry of Home Affairs. The committee has not met in a year. Committee members include PM Joseph Muscat, Opposition leader Simon Busuttil and Home Affairs minister Manuel Mallia. The committee oversees the Malta Security Services, which was recently in the limelight after this newspaper started a petition to release data related to communications tapping.
