Following the expiry of the last board's term, the Malta Tourism Authority has operating without one since May. MTA's chief executive said that a new board is set to be appointed and that the executive is carrying out its duties as normal in the meantime.

A tender calling for a scientific study on migratory finches in the autumn suggest that the finch trapping season will be held between 31 October and 31 December. Such studies usually begin and end with the open season.

A container holding cigarettes has disappeared from the Freeport, according to this newspaper, which also reports that the disappearance was kept quiet by the authorities. Documentation shows that the container in question was under Customs observation from two weeks ago but it left Malta "by accident" and without authorization from Customs.

Pine trees planted along the bus terminal in Valletta have continued to die off. According to this newspaper, at least three seem to have died already while others look weak. The trees had been shipped in from Italy to the tune of €5000 per tree, costing €138,000 in total.
