Prime Minister Joseph Muscat said an expression of interest for both the cruise liner terminal and the yacht marina in Gozo are at an advanced stage.

Muscat was addressing a Cabinet meeting in Victoria, Gozo, as part of a government initiative to hold Cabinet meetings in various localities around Malta and Gozo. Also present for the meeting were members from the Gozo Regional Committee – which forms part of the MCESD – and stakeholders that included Gozitan mayors.

Describing Gozo as being high on government’s agenda, Muscat announced that government had allocated funds for a feasibility study to be carried out on a fibre-optic cable connecting Malta and Gozo. Such a development would attract more businesses to Gozo.

He referred to the Gozo General Hospital as the “most underutilised asset on the island”, saying that plans were in store to integrate its services with the private sector. “Gozo can become a hub of medical tourism,” he said.

Muscat added that jobs and education were sectors which government was striving to improve on the sister island.
