The Parliamentary Secretary for Rights of Persons with Disability and Active Ageing, Justyne Caruana, presented a proposal during yesterday’s cabinet meeting to continue the implementation of work on residences for persons with disability.

Caruana’s proposal focused on the introduction of a residence for persons with disability in Gozo - the first of its type in Gozo.

Cabinet approved the proposal and will, in the coming days, release a call for interest for adapted properties, in line with criteria determined in the same expression of interest.

“The government is committed in implementing its electoral pledge to give peace of mind to parents of persons with disability even in Gozo,” Caruana said. “In such few days, this is the fourth time that the government is announcing a new initiative in the residential and independent living field for persons with disability.”

Meanwhile, processes have begun for a call for work to be done on the first residence for persons with disability in Siġġiewi – a residence which is planned to host its first residents by the end of the year. Furthermore, there are also a series of properties which are being evaluated from architects, Caruana said.

“This is a government that delivers,” she said. “For this government, persons with disability deserve the best.”
