The exploratory well drilled off the south of Malta has been plugged and the oil rig responsible will be moved to Morocco after no indication of hydrocarbons was found. Sources say the Phoenicia Energy Company has requested an extension from the government in order to study the results and decide whether to continue into a second exploratory phase.

Deputy Police Commissioner Ray Zammit will take the top spot after current Commissioner Peter Paul Zammit stepped down. In a statement, the government confirmed that the current commissioner would take up an administrative post within the organization of secutiry at national events and would be replaced by Raymond Zammit.

Speaking at a business breakfast yesterday, PM Joseph Muscat announced that a Memorandum of Understanding was to be signed with China next week. Sectors involved include health, sport, finance, education and tourism. Muscat also said that the IIP scheme was proving highly successful, attracting people who are "falling in love" with Malta.
