The opposition today called for an urgent Parliamentary debate on the situation in Libya.

In a statement issued today, the Nationalist Party said that despite tabling a motion calling fur an urgent debate on the worsening situation in Libya last week. Government has so far failed to react.

“The motion and today’s call follow the unpleasant news emerging from Libya, including claims by Maltese citizens in Libya on the lack of support being offered by the Maltese Embassy in Libya.”

The PN said the issue “must be debated urgently before Parliament’s summer recess,” and called on government to expl;ain what plans are in place for the possible evacuation of Maltese citizens in Libya.

In recent weeks, fighting between warring militias have intensified and the Tripoli airport has been closed for over a week following violent clashes.
