Mintoff monument to be unveiled on December 11th

Cospicua, a stronghold of Mintoff's, will serve as the monument's home.

The monument of late Prime Minister and Labour Party leader, Dom Mintoff, is ready and will be unveiled on December 11th in Piazza Paolino Cospicua.

In a statement issued by the Labour Party on the second anniversary of Mintoff’s passing, it said that Cospicua was chosen as the locality were it will be placed due to the strong ties which Mintoff had with the area and its people. In fact, during his political career, Mintoff always contested on the district which Cospicua formed part of.

The Party also explained that the December 11th date was chosen due to its proximity to Republic Day – a date of great political significance to Mintoff.

The monument’s designer is Noel Galea Bason and it was chosen from a total of 17 designs.
